Every account records packaging the same way. The simple and advanced inventory modes have been retired, and the Packaging workflow setting is gone, so there is nothing to choose.
Packaging a batch
- Open the batch and click Package Batch. FourFoxes asks Was this batch packaged today?
- Check the Packaging Date. For a fermented product, record the Batch pH too; marking the batch packaged logs its pH check for you.
- Pick the Container and enter How many did you fill? Where it can, FourFoxes suggests both from the product's Bill of Materials or its last packaging run. Filled more than one size? Use More containers. Packed into cases? If the container has a case pack on the Bill of Materials, choose Cases and enter how many cases.
- Open Add details if you want to set the yield, batch code, or notes, or attach photos. All of it is optional.
- Click Yes, packaged today, or No, package later to come back to it.
What you filled is saved as a packaging run. Once a batch is packaged, its page shows Packaging Runs, where you can review the runs.
Packaging before the earliest package date
A fermented batch has an earliest package date, worked out from its fermentation start and duration. If you package it before that date, the prompt says so and asks you to tick I'm packaging this batch before its earliest package date. FourFoxes keeps that acknowledgment and shows it on the batch page, under the packaging date.
What packaging does
- The amount produced is worked out from the runs: containers filled times their fill size.
- Packaging materials (containers, closures, and labels) are drawn from your packaging purchases, using the product's Bill of Materials, oldest purchase first. A run packed in cases also draws the case pack's supplies, such as case boxes and shrink-wrap, and their cost goes into cost per unit. Short stock never blocks packaging; the purchase can go below zero.
- Packaged inventory lots are created from the runs, so they appear in Packaged Inventory and the Stage Pipeline and can be shipped and traced. Cases are counted in units: 7 cases of 12 adds 84.
If no container is set up yet, the count still saves as the batch's yield, but no packaging stock is drawn, and the batch page asks you to add a package type. Ingredient stock is drawn separately, when you link a purchase to the batch.
The inventory pages (Packaged Inventory, Stage Pipeline, Expiry (FEFO), and Cost of goods) are available on every plan.
Your batches, packaging runs, and packaging details were kept. Former simple-mode accounts now have packaging runs and the inventory pages. Former advanced-mode accounts keep their runs, and also get the Package Batch prompt and the packaging fields on the batch Edit page.
